Polarizers provide color and contrast enhancement. Reflected light often shows up as whitish glare that washes out color in an image. A Polarizer corrects this problem producing deep, dramatically blue skies. It also removes glare from non-metallic surfaces, such as windows and water. Color saturation in general, especially outdoors, can be improved significantly.A Circular Polarizer has the same effect as a Polarizer and is used on cameras with beam splitting metering systems commonly found on auto-focus SLRs.

Pros & Cons :8l ii usm has the inner focus system, some light (especially taking the night scenes) will be enhanced to be visible as lens flares generated by this protection filter.

Pros & Cons :especially the lens being the ultra wide angle, these filters dont come by cheap, but its worth every penny to protect the glass up front, rather than to end up replacing the whole lens if you didnt have a uv protection filter.
