I think this camera has outstanding quality in hd but if your buying the camera to output via the rca jacks on the side of the camera the quality is less than perfect. But i didn't buy the camera for that reason so i'm very pleased with the camera.

I haven't read 1 negative review regarding this camera until now. Picture quality is great to the UNTRAINED eye. Image is grainy on any monitor even at the highest resolution (0db gain, no DRS). Zoom control is amateurish. Iris and focus need to be separate rings on the lens (not shared). Recorded audio has constant hiss throughout ( I use Sennheiser wireless system with Tram lavalieres as well as Sennheiser 416 shotgun and ME67 shotgun, so I KNOW it's not the mics). Would a REAL professional camera have digital zoom? My experience says NO. Camera has great features but the 2 most important features of this camera (video and audio) are UNACCEPTABLE! I am disappointed with this camera and very sorry I bought it. Yet again I regret having purchased a Panasonic product.

Coming from a DVX100B, I find myself shooting with this camera far more than I ever did with the DVX. Going tapeless is the primary reason and the beautiful shots this camera is able to produce is the secondary. Final Cut makes capturing footage as simple as drag and drop. There's no more nonsense of having a deck to capture things in real time anymore. The SD card format also means reviewing footage on a shoot is painless and won't require rewinding tape to try and get to a particular shot. As for the picture quality, it's gorgeous. Sharp, colorful, and 24P is amazing in low light. From what I've seen on Vimeo and read on forums, other HD cameras in the Panasonic line up like the HVX and HPX, offer just about the same image quality but their prices are thousands more and you're forced to use P2. Unless you're concerned about having more frame rate choices for overcranking and undercranking, this is the camera to get.
