I purchased this telescope mainly for the portability and as my introduction to astrophotography. I took this telescope out for the first night to take pictures of the moon. The pictures looked great! Here is a sample of the moon ([....]). As you can see the picture is sharp! This telescope has a focal length of 500mm and has a f-stop of f/6.25. The telescope weights almost 9 lbs and is has a sliding dew shield. The build quality is awesome! When it comes to visual observing, YOU DO NEED A EXTENSION TUBE. I learned this the hard way. I recommend the 2 - 2.5" length or else your eye pieces will never come into focus. Because of this scope, I will definitely be easier to learn and just experience the night sky. It will also be easy to just go out there and take pictures of the moon. Because of it's size, weight and easy setup, I can observe the night sky at a moment's notice. And when I outgrow this scope, I can then use it as a autoguider. I highly recommend this scope for the beginner. Note, just FYI, this scope does not have enough reach for planetary astrophotography. It's pretty good with DSOs and other objects.
