Nikon Telephoto Lens

Have you ever wondered how all those people get those great shots of animals, wild life, sports, people, or just about everything far away? Well they have great cameras and they hook telephoto lenses to them.

Here are some the important features and what you can do with a Nikon telephoto lens, for example:

• A telephoto is a longer lens that permits, just like binoculars, to help you get closer to a subject.

• Telephotos lenses are used for every types of purposes. Sports photographers love them because they can get really good instant and far away shots thanks to them. They are also very good for events like weddings and permit the photographer to step away from the people he shoots and not disturb their natural actions. No need to say why they are useful for wild life. Unless you’re at a zoo, you’d never get closer to a lion without using a telephoto lens.

• VR: it stands for Vibration Reduction (IS: image stabilizer for Canon users) and helps you handhold your camera at a slower shutter speed than normal. That way you get to handhold using a couple of stops lower than usual and still get sharp images without a tripod.

• Some of them are so heavy they need to be used with a monopod or a tripod. The larger ones come with mounts directly on the lens instead of the camera so you can hook them onto your mono or tripod. It permits to better balance the weight and not have your tripod suffer from the difference between your camera’s weight and your lens’.

• They usually are heavier than the other types of lenses, so be ready and know in advance what type of shots you’d like to achieve.

• Nikon telephoto lenses, just like Canon telephoto lenses, come with different features. For example, the aperture is different in all of them: you’ll get a faster focus with lenses like the f/2.8 than the f/4. But it will also change your entire creativity as well. A larger aperture (lowest numbers like 2.8, 3.5, 5.6) will permit you to shoot faster in lower light, but combined to the length of the zoom, will also create even blurrier backgrounds, which helps bringing the attention to one subject like an animal, or a flower.

• A telephoto lens is always needed. It really helps getting into some details other lenses would never permit you to get.

For a price of around $400, the Nikon Coolpix S70 is a beauty and a beast combined.

The second impressive camera from the house of Nikon is a Nikon Coolpix S220 that my cousin owns. He bought it a month ago and we used it while fishing last weekend.  For all of you who like to carry a small pocket camera for posting pictures on Face book, the Nikon Coolpix S220 is ideal. After our fishing session, we sat back for a few drinks and while I lay back on the grass looking at the pictures, I noticed that the camera’s ultra compact design is slightly better than the picture it produces. It costs around $150 and weighs 4 ounces. It has a 3x zoom lens with 10 megapixels and a full battery lasts for about 180 shots. In my opinion, it is a perfect Face book camera.

The next time you are out with friends or family or all by yourself, carry a Nikon digital camera. You won’t be disappointed and most probably pat yourself for slipping it into your denim.
